I Am a Military Child. {Purple Up!}

I miss my dad. He is far away and is taking forever to come home. My mom says he’s across the world protecting people. I am proud that he protects them but it makes me sad that I don’t get to see him every day. I try my best not to cry because my mom gets sad when she sees me cry. I tell her I am brave and strong and then she smiles.

I miss my dad very much. He was away when my baby sister was born so I helped my mom. I am the man of the house when he’s not here.

I wake up way before the sun comes up on most days. My mom also wears a uniform to work every day. Most mornings she rushes to get my sister and me ready for school, but sometimes I just want to stay asleep.

On days that my mom has to work and school is closed, I get to go with her. Those days are fun.

I really miss my dad but my mom said he’ll be home soon. I can’t wait to see him again!

I am resilient. I am resolute. I am relentless.

I am a military child.

April is the Month of the Military Child! On April 13, 2018, the State of Texas and the City of San Antonio are declaring it Military Kids Day.

You think being in the military is a sacrifice? Try being the child of someone in the military.

I can’t speak from experience because neither of my parents served in the military but I have two children whose parents are both serving in some capacity and it’s not always fun or easy for them. Today we celebrate their bravery and resilience.
