Day Trip to Corpus Christi

0

My hubby and I aren’t off the entire summer, so the “day trip” is a family affair for us. Recently, we took a trip with my in-laws: mother and father-in-law with baby brother-in-law, sister-in-law with her hubby and kiddos, plus the three of us! Destination: Corpus Christi.

Before heading out, we always make a pit stop at Moonbeans (I usually bring my own tumbler). Big Dipper for me, drip coffee for the hubby, and chocolate muffin for my baby bear, please! (We love local coffee shops!)

Potty Break!

First, potty break! Traveling with kiddos always means they have to empty their bladder when there’s no restroom nearby. Therefore, we always stop after the check point! Then, all the bladders are emptied and we’re ready to hit the open road.

Stop 1: USS Lexington

The USS Lexington was a great experience for our family. It’s both historical and a museum! If you followed my last post, you already know how much I love history, hence why we chose the USS Lexington. My son loved the interactive exhibits, especially the planes he was able to climb into with his daddy! Just a short distance away is the Texas State Aquarium.

Stop 2: Texas State Aquarium

We walked from the USS Lexington to the Texas State Aquarium. Half way there we stopped at a bench for a snack break: waters & Cheerios! Once we got there, we realized they have a splash pad! Unfortunately, we didn’t plan for the splash pad and had a major meltdown moment with all the kids. However, it wasn’t long before the sharks took over their attention.

Side note – did you know that a membership to the Gladys Porter Zoo grants you 50% off admission to this aquarium and a number of zoos across the country? See a full list here.

P.S. The Texas State Aquarium just opened up a whole new wing!

Lunch Break!

Before heading home we stopped at Joe’s Crab Shack. We usually like to eat and shop local, but the kids wanted Joe’s Crab Shack. The kids really were troopers in that hot sun, so they got rewarded! For future trips, we also love this “kids eat free” guide from Corpus Christi Moms Blog.

Stop 3: Selena

One last stop before heading home was the Selena monument! I couldn’t believe my niece didn’t know anything about Selena! We even did the “Washing Machine” on the steps! It was one for the books.

After hanging out in Corpus for the day, we headed home. The sun was brutal, but the air was fresh, the kids well-behaved and our souls refreshed for the week. It was a great decision for a day trip.

Corpus Christi also has a beach and a beautiful museum district. I just thought these options were different from the usual Corpus Christi beach destinations.
