Back to School Family Picnic

September 3rd • 4 – 7 pm

Edinburg Scenic Wetlands & World Birding Center

The new school year is underway. The weather will soon turn cooler. What a better way to celebrate than to get outdoors and enjoy the last warm days of the season with a family picnic.

Food vendors will be on site, or pack your own picnic lunch and picnic on our grounds. Cool off with water games, including a water slide (don’t forget your towel!). Get crafty and make your own school supplies. Also enjoy nature walks, wildlife presentations, a bird observation station, and much more.

Back to School Family Picnic Day activities will run from 4 – 7 p.m. Entry for this event is free.

Paddle Town Lake

Young Adventurer Days (IMAS)

Blast into space as we explore our solar system. Take part in a special story time reading of Hedgie Blast Off by Jan Brett. Discover the ways we learn about space as you create your own constellation!

IMAS Young Adventurer Days are special hands-on programs that help introduce our youngest scientists and artists to basic concepts. Each day features a special themed story time as well as an exciting and engaging hands-on activity.

Programs last approximately 30-45 minutes and take place the first Wednesday of every month at 10:00 a.m.

Children must be ages 5 or younger.
Rates: IMAS Member: $5/ Non-Member $10.

Stars and Skies Mysteries (IMAS)

Extended by popular demand, IMAS’ Stars & Skies Parties encourage our community to explore the night sky and solar system as they learn about space science and technology through special activities and programs. IMAS Stars and Skies Parties will be extended with additional dates: September 8, October 6, and November 3. The Parties are included with general admission and include Science on a Sphere space presentations, hands-on experiments, HEB Dome-Planetarium shows, and much more. Join us from 8 to 10 p.m. for stargazing outside on the IMAS front lawn. IMAS invites you to bring out your lawn chairs, telescopes, and binoculars so you can share your astronomy knowledge with others or use IMAS’ equipment as you observe star-filled skies.

Also, don’t miss your chance to see the popular Here Be Dragons exhibition in its last day at IMAS.

RGV Mom WOD - Workout Class

Join this mom fitness group for an extreme and enjoyable half hour morning workout three times a week. This bodyweight and light equipment workout is a great way to bond with fellow moms, get moving and get fit with Coach Keyla, our workout group’s personal trainer.

Empire Crossfit is offering a special boot camp class at a discounted rate for RGV Moms Blog readers. Mom can also lock in a lower rate by signing up before October 1st. Plus, the first class is free!

The Junior League of McAllen invites elementary school-aged children to the Edinburg Children’s Hospital for Kids in the Kitchen. Have fun while learning about healthy eating and active lifestyles! Fit Family 5K Run, Walk & Stroll

Check in and registration will take place on the day of the race from 6:30am – 7:30am with the race beginning promptly at 8:00am. Prizes will be awarded for male and female winners in 4 categories.

Zoofari (GPZ)

Help the Gladys Porter Zoo continue to inspire, educate and captivate the multitudes of children in the Rio Grande Valley by attending Zoofari 2016.  Join us for a party during this gala affair full of music, food, auctions and fun for everyone.
