I Just Want to Say: Mommy Purse

0

The other day I was at a birthday party.  It was in someone’s living room, so some mommies had congregated on the carpet with their babies.  One of the babies became fussy so I reached into my one gallon purse and pulled out some toys for them to play with.  One of the mommies commented, “Now that’s a Mommy Purse!”

Sale (2)I have a five year old.  I have graduated from the diaper bag, but I still need oh so many things.  Here is a breakdown of the top 5 things every mommy should have in there Mommy Purse.

Hygienics

Protecting kiddos from the sniffles and other nasty viruses floating about is always at the top of mom’s list. Plus sometimes you go to the bathroom at a restaurant or store and they are out of soap.  So I always carry an anti-bacterial gel and lotion to put on after word to prevent hands from drying.  Tissues are a must as well.  My little girl always breaks out into allergies when there isn’t a tissue for miles.  It’s always best to have some at hand.  Last wipes for like 1000 different reasons.

Entertainment

Ok, so sometimes she brings her iPad along and that solves all problems when I am trying to have adult conversation and she needs to be entertained.  But sometimes I don’t bring the iPad or it runs out of battery, this is when I bust out Happy Meal Toys.  These toys are small enough to fit into a purse and entertaining enough for the little one. Other small toys I’ve carried were bracelets (I have a girl) and even clown noses.  I’ve carried books and small coloring books, but one thing that surprised me that turned out a real lifesaver were Post-it & Pens.  She will draw and write her name on them until they are all gone.  And that’s ok with me.

Munchies

I think all mommies know this is a no brainer. The kiddos need to eat.  I’ve done snack Ziploc bags of Goldfish and even an apple holds up pretty well in a purse.  Just remember to take it out if they don’t eat it that day.  Also my little one only drinks apple juice and lemonade.  For those occasions we are at a venue that doesn’t provided these drinks I bring along single packets of lemonade drink mix to add to any water.

First-AidMommy Purse

Unfortunately accidents happen.  As a mommy you should carry at least a couple of Band aides & Neosporin (they have a spray version).  I also carry Benadryl, just in case.   Also during cold season it is good to have a couple of cough drops and of course any medication that is pertinent to your child.  For me it is allergy medication.

Grooming

Maybe this is a girl thing, but I’ll dress her up nice when we leave the house, then the day takes its toll and when I need to present her to someone or a group of friends she is a mess.  It is always good to have a comb and some rubber bands at hand.

Yes I really carry all this stuff around all the time.  Stop me on the street and ask to peer into my one gallon purse.  One thing that helps me out is having bags inside my bag.  I use make-up bags to pretty much keep everything organized.  And at the end of the day, it is better to have what you need than not.
