1.  What is your favorite food?

Chocolate, hands down.  I used to keep Hershey’s kisses in the fridge all the time … until I saw a documentary a few years ago about the child labor involved in harvesting cacao beans in Africa.  Since then, I’ve tried to buy fair trade or organic chocolate.  HEB carries a milk chocolate bar with Himalayan sea salt and almonds that is AMAZING.

2.  Who is/are your heroes?

My daughter is named after Corrie Ten Boom, a woman who lived in Holland during World War II.  Corrie and her family sheltered Jews.  Eventually, they were found out and she, her sister, father and brother were all imprisoned in German concentration camps.  Her story, in the book The Hiding Place, inspires me to be brave and to do the right thing, even when there may be terrible consequences.

3.  What did you want to be growing up?

When I was a kid, we lived about 4 hours north of New Orleans, and it was a magical place to visit.  My favorite spot was Jackson Square – a park in the French Quarter, full of performers and artists.  I just knew that when I grew up, I would be a lawyer part-time and spend my off hours painting and selling my art in Jackson Square.

4.  Dog or cat person?

Dog.  Cats make me sneeze!

5.  What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

Bloom where you’re planted.

6.  What are your hobbies?

My husband and I like to watch the NFL (Bears!) and NBA playoffs (Go Spurs Go!) together.  We used to share a fantasy football team, but we haven’t had time for that in the past few years.  Reading brings me great joy.  I recently finished the Divergent series, and I’m trying to stay ahead of my 9 year old on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series.  I’m not super crafty, but every so often, I paint a piece of furniture or modpodge some scrapbook paper on canvas.
