Preschool Options for our Little Ones in the McAllen/Edinburg Area

We all want our child to have every advantage in life and to succeed, especially when it comes to their education.  There are approximately 1,825 days between the day a child is born and the day they go to kindergarten.  That is 1,825 days for their brain to absorb and soak up knowledge.  With so many options available, selecting your child’s early childhood school can be very challenging.  Some parents feel keeping their child home and working with them until kinder is great, while others feel a formal educational setting promotes more social and cognitive development.  Both options can be very beneficial.  Only you know what is best for your child.

As an educator, I know working with young children can be very challenging and rewarding.  In my quest to find the right preschool for our children, my main priority was looking for a school with a loving and safe environment.  When trying to select the right preschool for your child, it is important to ask your friends and family for their thoughts and experiences with early childhood education.  What are your expectations?  Is it learning at their own pace such as a  Montessori program?  Perhaps a more structured environment?  There are also schools that teach dual language.  All my children had great experiences in preschool.  They have all loved their teachers and still keep in communication with them.

The following list includes a few preschools in the area where my children or my friend’s children have attended and have been very satisfied.  All of them are currently accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year.  I have tried to include grade levels, however, the times may be different for individual grades.  Please contact them for a tour of the campus, and I encourage you to be prepared with any questions or concerns you may have.  Good luck!

Rina enjoys planning family trips to the ranch, the island, and more exotic places. She always makes time during her days to regularly meet with her bible study group. Although Rina is a girly girl who loves to shop for a good bargain and enjoys her occasional pedicure and manicure, she enjoys hunting and the great outdoors too.

  2. Great list!

The Discovery School is also Montessori. It’s actually the only fully-accredited Montessori school in the Valley. It’s accredited by the major Montessori organizations as well as SACS (the same accrediting body that accredits UTPA).
