First off can we get a big WOOHOO because it’s finally FRIDAY!!!!! And not only is it FRIDAY, it’s the Friday before SPRING BREAK! Now I’d love to say that I’m looking forward to basking in the sun, a man/pedi, sleeping in, catching up on all my Bravo shows and some much needed “me” time but with a two year old and 8 month old as our plus two those activities will never happen have to be postponed until a later date 🙂 As happy as I am that both my husband and I will be off from work next week I’m also a little nervous as to how we will tire out entertain our little ones for the WHOLE WEEK. As much as we love the beach and can’t wait to get our toes in the sand, we will let the crazies leave before we head out there. After some “googling” and “facebooking” here is my top 5 Spring Break ideas:

5. Welcome to the Jungle – Pack everyone up in the car and head south to the Gladys Porter Zoo. We haven’t been there in ages and are looking forward to taking the minis out there. Note to self: Don’t forget the sunscreen!  My two year old will finally get the opportunity to see another animal besides our cocker spaniel!! I’m a little bummed that the Giraffe exhibit is closed for repair but nonetheless I’m sure we will spot some interesting creatures out there. They are open Monday – Friday from 9:00-5:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00-5:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children 2-13 and free for children under 2. Click the link above to visit their website.

4. Budding Picassos – The Tipsy Canvas has a couple of options for the kiddos as well. They offer a Kids Class on Saturdays from 10-2 and also a Spring Break Art Camp that will run from March 10th-13th. The cost of the camp is $125 and includes 4 paintings, a daily snack, Tipsy Canvas T-shirt, and casual art show. Ages 5 and up are welcome. To register your budding Picassos visit their website. NOTE: If you haven’t visited the Tipsy Canvas yourself, gather up your girlfriends and register ASAP. It makes for a great GNO!

3. Hit the GYM – The Little Gym of McAllen will be having Spring Break Camps next week, March 10-March 15.

Monday: All Sorts of Sports & A Little Dancing

Tuesday: Dinosaur Adventure

Wednesday: Pirate’s Landing

Thursday: Super Friends
Friday: TLG Beach
They will offer two camps per day, the morning camp from 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM and an afternoon camp from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Camps are for children ages 3-12. Children must be potty trained. There will be themed activities, station time, fun filled challenges, fun craft and a snack. You can enroll your child for one camp or every day.
Members: $20 per camp
Non Members: $25 per camp
Call (956) 687-5353 to enroll your child!
2. Day at the Museum – If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Children’s Museum of Brownsville Spring Break would be a great time to stop by. We went this past summer and we all had a blast. It was love at first sight for me when I spotted the mini HEB and Target in there! My son loved pushing the mini grocery carts around and filling them with “food” and also enjoyed the mini culinary academy they have there. They are open Tuesday-Saturday from 10-5 and have some fun activities on their calendar for next week — I mean who wouldn’t love to learn how to Rope like a Cowgirl/Cowboy or Create your own Superhero??
1. Let’s Rodeo – For as long as I can remember one of the highlights around here has always been a trip to the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show during Spring Break. They are celebrating their 75th year here in the RGV and the littles always have fun petting the animals and riding the carnival rides. If you’ve been craving a turkey leg, onion blossom or funnel cake (and you know you have) then this is definitely a must do, you can enjoy all three while you’re there. Beware that it can get packed at times, we have found the best time to go is mid-morning. It makes for a great nap time!
Whatever you choose to do, stay sane — I mean safe and enjoy the WEEK with your little ones!
