Keeping your children safe when sharing their photos on social networking sites

0

My kids love to play with my phone. I worry a lot about them posting silly unreadable stuff to social networking sites, deleting images or emails and taking video and photos of me at inappropriate times – like when I have to pop a boob out to nurse the baby.

I like to think I keep my phone pretty safe for my children. I like to think that. But I’m not naive enough to think I am smarter than all those hackers out there. So when I am made aware of privacy issues with my kiddos and their safety is in jeopardy, I sit up straight and listen up.

I learned today about settings in my iPhone I hadn’t really looked into or considered changing.

The video below is from an NBC Action News segment talking about how photos taken on our smartphone devices can pose privacy risks when shared to popular social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Pretty scary stuff ya’ll. Imagine having someone come knocking on your door looking for you and your children because they found your address, your children’s school address and the address of places you frequent from photos YOU posted to the web!? Well, it happened to one mom. Even the location of her child’s bedroom in her house was easily mapped out!

I quickly changed the settings on my iPhone right after I saw it. I have an iPhone 5 so I am not aware of how to do it on other smartphone devices. (If anyone knows please share with our readers so they may do the same.)

Go to
–> Settings

–> Privacy

–> Location Services

–> turn off Location Services for camera and any other apps you want protected.
