Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

  • Make sure costumes are made of flame retardant material
  • Children should always be accompanied by an adult
  • Check if the city has a curfew
  • Plan a safe route
  • Set a time for your older kids to be back home
  • Take a cell phone
  • Stay in well-lit areas and do not cut through alleys or fields
  • Do not let your children eat any candies until you’ve checked them
  • Remind your child never to go into anyone’s home {you should probably walk them all the way to the door}
  • Only go to homes with outside lights on
  • Carry a flashlight and/or reflective tape on clothing
  • Stay together
  • Cross streets at crosswalks
  • Always look both ways before crossing streets {even in neighborhoods}
