5th Annual Sneakers for Students 1 Mile and 5K Race

Please Help Us Reach Our Goal of 2,000 shoe vouchers.

The Cameron County Bar Association Women’s Law Section and the First Family Network of Cameron County have once again teamed up for the 5th Annual Sneakers For Students fundraiser.

What is Sneakers For Students? Volunteers from both organizations raise money to purchase $10 shoe vouchers for underprivileged students in Cameron County. Members raise money by asking the community for donations and also hosting a 1 mile Run/Walk and 5k Race.

In its first year, the Sneakers For Students program raised enough money to hand out 624 new shoe vouchers. Each year the number of vouchers has increased. This year’s goal is 2,000 shoe vouchers which equals $20,000.

School districts that have benefited from the program include: Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Point Isabel, Rio Hondo, San Benito, Santa Maria and Santa Rosa.

If you would like to be a sponsor, a vendor or for more information on the event, please contact Analisa Figueroa at (956) 621-0550 or email [email protected] All donations are tax deductable.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Last year, over 1,200 participants from the valley, as well as from across the United States and Mexico, participated in this event. The 5K race route begins on the west end of PSJA Stadium located on 709 E. Gore, runners then dash through the heart of this city, and then finish near the original starting line.
Although the primary purpose of this event is to encourage physical fitness through an enjoyable health conscious recreational activity, it is also intended to promote Pharr’s increasingly charming downtown district.
