Art! Whether you decide to tackle a Pinterest inspired craft or go to a local art class, creating art is always fun.

Books!  The McAllen Public Library has thousands of books available.  It is a phenomenal resource available to all of us for FREE!  You can also check out their event calendar here  for tons of  daily activities.

Brownsville Children’s Museum!  This museum offers hands-on creative and interactive exhibits, workshops and special events to children and families of the Rio Grande Valley.  This fun and educational place is open daily and with an admission fee of $6 per person.  Click here for more information

Community Centers!  McAllen offers events at their three centers:  Lark, Palm View and Las Palmas.

Camp Kayak!   This camp focuses on outdoor sport and exploration.  Activities include: archery, slingshots, rock art, arrowheads, geocaching, nature photography, fishing and kayaking at Fireman’sPark.  Click here for more information.

Duck Pond!  Pack up some old bread and crackers and head over to Banworth Park (1822 N. Shary Rd) to feed the ducks and see countless pigeons.  If you look closely, you may be able to spot a few turtles too!

Dinosaur Exhibits!  Dinosaurs have been extinct for years but lucky for us we can spot them here in the RGV.  “Be the Dinosaur” can be found at IMAS until September 7, 2014.

Exercise!  Take a walk on the 2nd street trail or head to a local park and let the kiddos use some of their energy.

Edinburg Scenic Wetlands!  If you are looking to get an upclose view of nature, this is the spot for you!  For a small fee, you can see the native birds, butterflies, and plants.

Farmer’s Market!  Looking for fresh locally grown vegetables, fruits and herbs?  Look no further!  The McAllen Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday  from 9am – 12:30 pm at the McAllen – Fireman’s Park.

FantasyLand!  The local roller rink offers a fun public skate sessions, parties and lessons.

Gardens!  The RGV is flooded with public gardens.  Take some time to stop and smell the roses or native plants at the Botanical Gardens,  Edinburg Center, or Butterfly Center.

IMAS!  Both adults and children can develop a greater appreciation for the arts through the museums exhibits, events and programs.

Jumper Roos Bounce House Open Play!  Visit Edinburg’s first indoor climate controlled party facility.  During open play, children can enjoy the bounce houses for a small fee.

Little Gym of McAllen!  This fun haven for children offers programs that range from 4 months to 12 years old.  Children are encouraged to be themselves and have fun while they learn.  For adults looking to have a little “me time” the Little Gym of McAllen offers Parents Survival Nights. Children can be dropped off on designated nights and they will be provided with entertainment and a meal!

National Butterfly Center!  This 100 acre native botanical garden in Mission is filled with a variety of butterflies to see.

Outdoor activities!  The possibilities are endless with this.  Play in the yard, play at the park.  Enjoy the warm weather!  Just make sure to apply sunblock if you are out midday.

Picnics in the Park!  Pack a blanket and some treats and hit up your favorite park for a fun relaxing family evening.

Pharr Aquatic Center!  This water playland consists of slides, sprayers and pools for both adults and children.

Quinta Mazatlan!  This urban sanctuary is a beautiful spot to take the kids.  There are many events designed for children throughout the week.  Check out the events calendar here

Raspas!  If you are trying to beat the RGV heat, sweet or sour cold raspas are sure to help cool you and the kids down.

South Padre Island!  We are so lucky to live so close to the beach!  Pack up the car and plan for a fun day in the sun.  For tips on what to pack read here

Turtles!  While you are at the beach, make sure to check out the Sea Turtle Inc. You can view rescued turtles and learn about various sea turtle species, their characteristics, and why they are endangered.

Tipsy Canvas!  This art studio allows you to create your own masterpiece without committing to a weekly class.  On weekdays, summer camps are offered for children while the evenings are reserved for adults who are free to bring in alcohol while they release their inner Picasso.

UTPA summer camps!  The university offers summer camps for Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Swimming.

Visit Fireman’s Park!  This park has so much to do.  Stop by and try out the pedal boats, fishing and yummy snacks.

Water Parks!  Dress the kiddos in swimwear and head to the McAllen Splash Park or the Freddy Gonzalez Memorial Park Splash Pad.

WesMer Drive In!  Every night, rain or shine, $10 gets you not one but two movies!  Pack up the car with treats and enjoy a movie or two picnic style with the family.

X means strike for BOWLING!  Whether you hit up Flamingo Bowl in McAllen, Pins and Cues in Weslaco or Creasey’s in Harlingen, each bowling alley has great deals and pretty much guarantees a couple of hours of fun!
