Creating a Summer Bucket List

0

Do you see other moms doing something and wonder if you should be doing it also? I am constantly seeing great ideas pop up on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram and I immediately think, should I be doing this too? Many times, my best parenting ideas have come from an idea I’ve seen on a blog or facebook post.

One of  these great ideas I recently saw over and over again was The Summer Bucket List! I started seeing moms post about checking things off their Summer Bucket list and this got me thinking that I needed to make our list. Since I am a list maker, it didn’t take me long to get this project started. Plus, this is a great opportunity to spend time as a family!

A Summer Bucket List can be created in a few simple steps and is a great way to get the family together. Creating the list together will give everyone a chance to share their ideas of what would make a spectacular summer. Plus, checking items off a list ensures that we achieve as many fun activities as possible while summer is here!

Step 1: Get the family involved

Now that my boys are getting older, it is crucial to have their input. If they aren’t on board, the Summer Bucket List is not going to happen. My first step was to get the family together and ask them about what they had in mind for fun activities that we could do as a family this summer. I had everyone generate a list of at least three things they each wanted to do over summer break. Depending on the age of children in your house, the activities will differ.

Step 2: Start writing

My next step was to write down all the things I already knew we were doing. This included our vacation, camps I had signed them up for, and events we had written on the calendar.

Step 3: Check out events that are happening in your area

I then went through our McAllen Parks and Recreation booklet to see what kind of activities that the city was offering for free! There are a ton of great activities that are put on for the community. It is important to take advantage of these opportunities.

Step 4: Hang up your Bucket List

Create the list and proudly display it! This can be done in a number of ways. You can put it on a chalkboard, a dry erase board, a posterboard, a typed list, or write them on an actual bucket! As you complete an item, check it off!

Tonya
Hi friends! My name is Tonya- a Midwestern girl who became a Rio Grande Valley transplant three years ago. I spent seven years as a second grade teacher. After completing my Master's in Reading and Literacy, I became a reading specialist for three years. After moving to south Texas, I became a stay-at-home mom for the first time. I've been married for ten years and we have three kids ages 9, 6, and 2. I love online shopping, Netflix, and running but nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family. Moving to the valley was a huge change but constant sunshine and great Mexican food has made it well worth it!
