The Last Time

0

We sold our house. We handed over the keys yesterday. As I stood at my front door locking it up for the last time, I was overwhelmed by how exhausting this move was.

I know. Moving sucks. Nobody likes it. We had so much help and it still took us 5 days, 2 PODS, a 10 x 20 storage unit and garage space from my in laws and brother.

Yeah, we totally miscalculated the crap we have.

What’s even worse is that in about 2 weeks time, we close on the new house. Which means we get to do it all over again!

Yippee!

Not.

I’m exhausted. Mentally drained. And I like to challenge myself and do things like keep my online store open and meet with clients and take my kids with me to pack boxes.

I swear I packed like 30 plastic tea pots but I also swear I only bought one. So either I grossly miscalculated how many tea pots I bought or my kids are trying to mess with me and they kept taking the tea pot out of the boxes. Both are highly likely. I failed math – a lot. And my kids can be evil – a lot.

As I drove away for the last time with my sweaty dirty kids in the backseat (and my white office chair I insisted on escorting myself so it wouldn’t get dirty) I couldn’t help but look in the rearview mirror one last time. It would be the last time I drove away from that house which was my refuge for seven years. The house we planted and nurtured that tree there you can barely see in the photo. The house I brought all three of my children home to. (We planted and nurtured them there too ;).

And though I was happy to be moving on to new adventures in our new home, I couldn’t help but think that one day I would look back and think what a simple time this not-so simple time was. I’d one day be wishing I could have my three Littles be this little again. I’d probably take back every excruciating minute of this move, a million times over, so that my children would not have to have their hearts broken, or be peer pressured, or be failing a class, and the lists and fears and possibilities go on and on and on…

The kiddos are oblivious to everything that is going on. We are shacking up with the rents in the interim. They are in heaven. Because I like to keep things real, I figured now was as good a time as any to officially introduce my in-laws to the Hispanic way of life. Which means there are now 2 grandparents, 2 parents, 3 kids, 1 babysitter and on occasion a copier technician and a client or two in their home. Every time my mother in law comments how awesome it is waking up to those 3 precious smiling faces of her grandchildren, I wonder if that will be the last time she says that ๐Ÿ™‚
