When I was pregnant with Klarissa I registered for all sorts of things. I’m telling you, I selected over 100 items! I selected items I have probably only used once and items I have used every single day. I ended up using items I thought I wouldn’t use much, the most (I’ll tell you about those another day) and items I thought I’d really need haven’t been out of the closet much. Of all the things I selected, I only selected one blanket. I got that one blanket and many, many more. I thought, what am I going to do with so many blankets? Let me tell you, I have used all of them at least once, but there is one set I absolutely love- the muslin blanket! They are worth every penny and are multi-purpose. The best part is Klarissa loves them too!!
What are muslin blankets? An example of two of the most common brands are Aden & Anais and Luna Lullaby. The blankets typically come in a package of 3-4 blankets. They are 100% natural cotton muslin. 
Here is a list of things you can do with the muslin blanket:
- Swaddle – the muslin is the perfect size to swaddle your baby.
- Sunshade – you can drape this breathable blanket over your infant car seat or stroller to block the sun.
- Nursing cover – drape it over you and baby while you nurse. I did this several times with Klarissa when I’d forgotten to pack my nursing cover.
- Burp Cloth – forgot to pack a burp cloth or don’t have time to reach for one? The muslin does the job just fine.
- Protector/Tummy Time Blanket – we use the muslin as a protector for our couch when we lay Klarissa down for a nap while we’re watching T.V. or even at Grandma’s house when Klarissa wants to play on the floor.
- Blanket – Klarissa sleeps in a ‘Sleep-n-Play’ every night…I know if I’m hot in the middle of the night, she’s got to be hot too. I trust the muslin to keep her cool or warm depending on her body temperature.
These blankets make great gifts for infants and toddlers. If you see them on a registry, I highly recommend you buy them. Mommy will thank you. The more you wash them, the softer they get!
